Happy Valentine's Day Friends!!!
After getting hit with a stomach bug a couple days ago, I'm finally back in business! I'm ready to share something that I've been thinking about for a while. I feel like I'm confessing! So I'll just say it. I've been wanting to bring some red into the living room. And Valentine's Day seems like a good day to tell you that!
I know it doesn't go with the purple/green/grey thing (not to mention the browns in the sofa (which I don't want forever) and the tv console/dresser) so there's going to be some changes in the living room coming up. Actually, I feel kind of bad about it too. There's lots of other spaces in the house that need some decorating attention, yet I'm spending more time on the living room.
Anyway, for the month of love, how about some rooms inspiring red accents.
Notice how there's at least three red items in every picture. This totally works and reminds me that if I tackle this, I need to commit to it and not just do one red thing. Here, the brick, red in the print and the stools make your eyes go up and down and get the whole picture rather than just focusing on one big red thing sticking out.
First, can I say that I love these floor to ceiling gallery walls. Someday I want that, along with really, really high ceilings. The red here is also spread across the room. The red pillow on the green sofa really brings it together with the other red sofa.
There's a little bit of red all over this one but the the pillows, ottoman and floral in the rug really stick out here. I can spot a couple of other red bits, including that beautiful looking bench in the next room. I think I like it because it is black. I've been wanting to do that with something!
Is that green, velvety sofa to die for! I love the red and blue/grey pillows on it, especially the trim on the pillow. The red in the pillow and the painting really pop in this room but there is also more subdued red tones in the stool and what looks like the fireplace marble.
I love all the red sprinkled throughout here, especially under the cloche and the diagonal striped pillow. This isn't quite as much my taste but there others are...even if my house doesn't show it!
I love those roman shades with the red trim and have been wanting to try making my own using this revised tutorial. I like that red sconce and I want that bookcase!!
What don't I like about this room. The red flowers, carpet and what look like some law books on the bookcases are lovely, especially with the gold walls and the turquoise lamps.
So what do you think about red?? I use to have a red dining room and it never felt me but I think I can handle and love some red accents into the living room. :) What's your accent color in your house? Heck, what is your favorite color?

I love the red. But OMG the last picture is exactly what I was talking about at the end of my post today. I think I made up my mind now...LOL
ReplyDeleteHaha - I'm off to read your post!
DeleteHappy VAlentine's Day to you too! Glad to hear you feel better. I hate BUGS! So to the red...I love red!! I think you should go gor it! I just wish I could pick a color. LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it Geesha!! I'm totally going to go for red because you said so! :)
DeleteHave a great weekend friend!
I vote yes on red! I think as long as you can find a fabric or something to tie it together you can put whatever colors you like in a room. Our kitchen has cranberry red walls and opens into the living room which has serious turquoise accents. They don't match in the traditional sense but they go together since I have accents of both colors in each room. I love unexpected colors!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better! Being sick is no fun!
Oooh your walls with the turquoise accents sound lovely! I do need to find fabric!
DeleteWe're just starting to bring more colour into our home. So far, red hasn't made the roster, but I can definitely imagine some sneaking in through some rugs, art work, etc.
ReplyDeleteI like what you're thinking Tia! That is exactly what how I see us doing it.
DeleteOur old condo was decorated in all black, white, and red and I kind of tired of the color there even though I have some of it in my new house haha The rooms you chose are gorgeous though, especially that last one!
ReplyDeleteI did get tired of our red walls that we use to have in the dining room but I think that was because it wasn't my style in the first place. I love all those rooms too!
DeleteI love the inspiration pics. I am a big fan of pops of red. I was thinking about adding them to our sunroom...I can't wait to see what you end up doing!
ReplyDeleteI know those rooms are all gorgeous! You should do it too!
DeleteYou are a 3rd generation "redder"! You know how I feel about red.
ReplyDeleteI think the maybe what was off on your DR was that the tint/tone of the red and white was too cold and harsh? Kind of like when I painted the BR at the top of the stairs that bright yellow and I knew it was wrong as soon as it dried! But oh well, paint is so easy to change, you don't have to commit to it forever.
I love your idea pics--one of the middle pics--the one with the asian influenced coffee table with stacks of books on it, woven rug, and the beige sofa/settee whose style I can't remember--reminds me of your Grandma Betty's house if she had had a flair for decorating and could've edited out the things she didn't need. Do you get that feeling?
I think I do really love it. I don't want anything big and red (like a whole piece of furniture) but some art, a vase, books, pillows, tray, or lamp shade...those all sound like the right size/amount. The dining was was definitely off (and it really wasn't my style as I've figured that out over time)! Plus that old light fixture. That was horrible.
DeleteI know what you mean about that middle picture. I love how much stuff is in it which Grandma definitely had...just of a different kind! ;)
